Did an experiment today.. Not really sure if it can be considered an experiment.. Maybe I should say it is more of an attempt at trying something new for a practice session..
Yea.. Took some time to set up my electric guitar today.. Normally I would not take out my electric guitar for practice because it would take me quite a while to set up.. This is because I need to set up my amplifier and also my effects pedal if I want to get the most out of my electric guitar.. Hence, I would prefer not to use my electric guitar for practice at all due to the complications involved.. But for today, I decided to take some time to set up my electric guitar.. Reason is I miss the sound of the electric guitar.. The distortion sound and all the other different effects.. Another reason is I've found a song which I have high hopes of rearranging the music to suit the use of only 1 guitar.. Hence, I decided to give it a try.. Yea, the song is called "
Spirit Dreams Inside" by L'Arc~en~Ciel.. One reason why I chose this song is because this song has an Englisg version to it.. Since I don't really know Japanese, I decided that the English version would be good enough for me..
Back to the song... I decided to sing this song and play the guitar using some distortion effects.. Although it sounded a little different from the original song, I guess it was quite a decent try for a first attempt.. I also decided to record it down with my MP3 player for reference..
After listening to it, I came up with a conclusion: I need more practice... Seriously, I think I need more practice if I want to sing Rock songs well.. Some of the things I've found out: 1)I need more practice.. This is obvious, cause this is my first try..Still think I'm not good enough.. I'm sure I'll do better if I practise more.. 2)I'm too restrained when singing.. I guess this is because I tried to emulate Hyde's nonchalent style of singing for this song.. I thought a nonchalent approach is the best way to bring out the essence of this song.. But I guess I'm not there yet.. As a result, I found myself sounding neither nonchalent nor at ease when singing this song.. I sounded like I'm trying to act nonchalent.. Guess I have to work on this.. 3)I lack the power in my voice.. Not sure if this is really a problem.. Cause I was singing this song sitting down.. Perhaps I can do better if I was standing up.. In addition, my voice wasn't in the best of condition cause I have been singing quite a lot of Rock songs recently.. I guess I will give it another try next time round..
Well.. I guess that's about all I can say for my first attempt at this moment.. Apart from the singing, some pitching problems and some wrong chords played (actually, it seems that there are quite a lot of problems), I guess this was quite a decent attempt at this song.. If I were to grade myself, I guess I would give myself a 5 out of 10.. Sure, there is a lot of room for improvement, but I guess it was still not that bad.. I decided to put up the clip here, if you all want to listen to my first attempt at this song, by all means.. I guess it shouldn't post a big problem if I put the clip up here, cause not a lot of people know my blog address, except for my close friends.. So I guess I wouldn't be in too much of an embarrassment for the way I sing.. One point to note: For those who know the way I sing, I guess you all would be in for a surprise to hear me singing in such a different manner.. Yea.. I tried to sing in a deeper tone, following Hyde's nonchalent style of singing.. May sound weird at first, but don't worry, I know when to be serious..
Not sure if you all can hear the clip, cause I'm not sure if it can be played at all.. But for those who are able to hear it, yea, this is me singing in a totally different manner.. Feel free to comment on my singing, cause I believe comments are good for improvement.. Hope to do better next time...
