Eve of performance...
Will be performing at the Pavilion tomorrow for the Anti-Aids campaign.. This performance will be something new to me as I will be singing in English.. Yea.. Something which I have not really done before on stage.. A new challenge..
Will be singing Savage Garden's "Crash and Burn" tomorrow.. Decided on this song because they wanted an English song and preferably a song that has something to do with the theme.. Well, I guess the song which I have chosen may not have everything to do with the theme, but I guess some parts of it are quite suitable.. Had rehearsals last Friday as well as yesterday..
At the rehearsal yesterday, I heard Yuxin, our singing instructor for this year, sing the song "Heal The World" (I think that's the title, if I'm not wrong).. I was blown away by his voice.. Really.. It was great.. His voice is really great.. So gentle and clear.. In addition, I also heard a few other male singers sing.. I feel that all of them can really sing very well.. Kok Song once told me that during the auditions, it was the girls who stood out.. But from what I heard yesterday, I feel that the guys were also great.. Haven't really heard the girls sing yet.. Looking forward to hearing them tomorrow..
During the rehearsal yesterday, I noticed that there had been some changes in my style of singing recently.. Since "Crash and Burn" has a tinge of Rock in it, I found out that while singing the song, I have unknowningly added some "hyde-ness" in it.. With due respect to hyde, I do not mean I sing like him.. What I mean is that I have unknowningly adopted some elements of his style of singing when I sing the song.. I'm not sure if this is a good thing.. Cause I might have lost my own style of singing in the process.. Not only this, even though "Crash and Burn" is somewhat Rock, Darren Hayes is able to sing it in such a way that it sounded so calming.. I'm not sure if I'm able to do that tomorrow.. But I'll give my best..
I guess I'm now back to the stage of experimenting with my voice again.. I know it's a little risky to sing on stage when I'm still experimenting with my voice.. But I'm going to let my feelings take over tomorrow.. I believe that feelings is the most important element in singing.. So I guess I'm not going to think so much tomorrow.. Just let my feelings take over..
With so many talented singers this year, I guess it's high time for me to retreat to the back and experiment with my voice.. I hope that by the time I'm done with experimenting, I would be able to come up with a defining edge to my voice that I can call my own.. Well.. I guess that's going to take some time.. For now.. I'll just hope that things go well tomorrow...
